Jean-Pierre Mauer with the original ManuscriptI went to a great book launch last night at Edition Patrick Frey in Zurich. The book, Morgan is Sad Today by Jean-Pierre Maurer and Robert Muller, took more than 40 years since the the images were taken for the book to be published. The Book Morgan is Sad to Day is a collection of photos from the 60s and 70s of a mad group of friends expressing a sense of freedom and madness like a rock band on tour. Its a snap shot of fashion and pop culture taken in a somehow timeless way. It is also a document that the swinging 60s and early 70s didn't just happen in London.
Patrick Frey is a brave publisher to revisit a somehow forgotten era, but in doing so he bring it alive in a very contemporary sense. You can see below the final book that was published and the box of an almost lost manuscript, that has obviously been around for a while. On the right Jean-Pierre Maurer with hand printed pictures. As a photographer it is an inspiration to see a project completed and published over such a long period. Especially when there are courageous publishers such as Patrick Frey who take time to show the world a different view of photography that is less conventional, yet none the less important.

You have seen it on practically every wedding photographer's web page and in bridal magazines. It seems that everyone wants to give the bride and groom advice on how to choose a wedding photographer. Most of what I have read is sound and useful advice, but I thought it might be helpful to write an article that explores this in more detail.
